The Synodontis Petricola, also known as the Dwarf Cuckoo Catfish, is a small, peaceful species native to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. It’s prized for its attractive spotted pattern, active behaviour, and compatibility with both African cichlid and peaceful community aquariums.
Unlike many Synodontis species, Petricola stays small, making it perfect for medium-sized tanks. They are most active at night but will become more visible and social when kept in groups. Their unique breeding behaviour (cuckoo-style egg-laying among cichlids) adds extra interest for advanced aquarists.
