The Yellow Peacock Cichlid, also known as the Sunshine Peacock (Aulonocara baenschi), is one of the most popular and visually striking haplochromine cichlids from Lake Malawi. With its intense bright yellow to golden body and contrasting blue face (in males), it’s a peaceful showstopper perfect for African cichlid displays.
Unlike Mbuna, Peacock Cichlids are more mellow and can be housed with other non-aggressive Malawi species in tanks with open swimming space and scattered rockwork. They’re ideal for hobbyists who want colour and grace without the extreme aggression of Mbuna species.
